Geocaching x Radio

Another hobby which I greatly enjoy is geocaching, and I have been wondering for a long time how to incorporate the two together in a meaningful and fun way.

Often when I go to a SOTA summit, trig site, HEMA hump, etc, I will check to see if there is a geocache in the area and attempt to find it and log it.

While this certainly is fun, the geocaching doesn't relate to radio specifically.

When VOTA came along, I had a brainwave. What if as part of doing the awards programme of VOTA there could also be a geocaching element.

The idea: I am going to slowly add geocaches (space permitting) to each of the volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field which will be clearly labelled as "VOTA caches".

This will take time but eventually they will build up and hopefully cover a large part of the volcanic field. It won't be possible to do all the volcanoes.

When you are on the volcano doing your activation, also find the geocache. Do this for each volcano you go to if there is one there.

Once you claim an award from the VOTA programme, if you also found the designated "VOTA cache" for each of the volcanoes included in you award, you will

be eligible for a separate Geocaching x Radio award.
